SYEIKH DAUD AL FATANI
his full name is al-Alim Allamah al-Arif ar-Rabbani Syeikh Wan Daud bin Syeikh Wan Abdullah bin Syeikh Wan Idris al-Fatani. his mother name Wan Fathimah Wan Salamah bin Tok Banda Wan Su bin Tok Kaya Rakna Diraja bin Andi (Faqih) Ali Datok Maharajalela bin Mustafa Datu Jambu (Sultan Abdul Hamid Syah) bin Sultan Muzaffar Waliullah bin Sultan Abu Abdullah Umdatuddin.
syeikh Daud better known as Tok Syeikh Daud Patani or syeikh daud al fatani had five siblings in the family three brothers and one sister.
Syeikh Daud al-Fathani, born at Kampung Parit Marhum, Kerisek, Patani. Kota Kerisek are very famous in history because at here Maulana Malik Ibrahim one of the Wali Songo used to live and teach there before return to Jawa Timur.
the writer of this book have some problem in finding the facts about his year of born. according to syeikh Daud relatives some of them said he was born on the year of 1133 H, but some of our research siad 1153 H or 1183 H.
his father Sheikh Wan Abdullah and his grandfather Sheikh Wan Idris was famous muslim scholar at that time. from the beginnig of his life his father and grandfather has tought him about islam, and syeikh Daud him self was a fast leaner. he always follow his dad or his grandfather when they went for teaching. it was normal at that time for young kids like syeikh Daud to memorize al-quran, hadith, nahu and sorrof. they were trained to memorizing without writing it. just hear from the teacher itself.
syeikh Daud learn islam from his family including his famous uncle Sheikh Muhammad Zain bin Faqih Jalaluddin al-Asyi, after few years syiekh Daud with his friends went to study more about islam at Makkah. He study there for 30 years and then went to study at Madinah for five more years. After completing his study he went back to Pattani with his fellow friends to spread the da'wah and teach islam to pattani people. He was shock to find out that siames army have attack pattani and his village. Syiekh Daud with his fellow friends join Pattani people and fight with what all they have. Luck was not on their side, Pattani empire fall down to siames empire and syiekh Daud with his fellow friends was thrown out from Pattani to Makkah.
At Makkah he was elected to became leader for pilgrims during haj month. He spend his time teaching at Masjidil Haram and writing abaout aqidah, feqah, akhlaq, arabic and many more. Syiekh Daud writing also very popular at Makkah during that time, he wrote in malays and arabic. The malay version become so popular in asia. Syeikh Daud always remind his students to understand and learn about islam deeply, because to him religion education should be understand first before proceed to other education. He also ask his student to read a lot and never to foget memorizing the Holy Quran. His famous book was Bughyatuth Thullab, in this book he asked all the muslim to unite and make sure to study islam as deep as you can. He also do some tafsir in hadis.
Syeikh Daud al-Fathani wrote in his famous book “Bughyatuth Thullab” : “if some is are expert and major at any field of educations, but he fail to expert and major in Islam education, the person is same as a person witout any knowledge at all.”
Syeikh Daud al-Fathani blow his last breath at Makkah and he was burried Taif. His grave were beside Saidina Abdullah bin Abbas grave, who are cousin to Rasulullah s.a.w. Nobody know the exact year of syiekh die but the closes information that the writer got is in the year 1847 M, but there is also some information said that in the year of 1265 H.
To the witer, although Syeikh Daud al Fatani has gone for so long, to him Syeikh never die, his courage and bravenes in fighting siames army and his writing in educating people to islam always there to guide the writer like he is there with him always.
