Lebanese...
Actually I don't have wide knowledge about Lubnan and to talk about it, I have to do some research on that country. In addition, im not really feeling well this week..
First of all, in the last class (4th Jan) my classmate; Nasra (if the spelling is true..heh) has given an information about Lubnan, however i am not really can understand maybe because the way she speak and deliver the information are to fast and a bit of slang.
As for general knowledge about Lubnan (after doing some research..), i found there was happened a Lebanese Civil War on 1975-1990 which reached after the end of Lebanon's administration by the Ottoman Empire. Since the end of the war, the Lebanese have conducted several elections, most of the militias have been weakened or disbanded, and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have extended central government authority over about two-thirds of the country.
Following the cease-fire which ended the July 12, 2006 Israeli-Lebanese conflict, the army has for the first time in over three decades moved to occupy and control the southern areas of Lebanon. Only Hezbollah retains its weapons, due to what it claims is legitimate resistance against Israel in the Sheeba Farm area.
Lebanon still bears deep scars from the civil war. In all, it is estimated that more than 100,000 people were killed, and another 100,000 handicapped by injuries. Approximately 900,000 people, representing one-fifth of the pre-war population, were displaced from their homes. Perhaps a quarter of a million emigrated permanently. .
car boms became a favored weapon of violent groups worldwide, following their frequent, and often effective, use during the war. In the 15 years of strife, there were at least 3,641 car bombs, which left 4,386 people dead and thousands more injured. The country made progress toward rebuilding its political institutions and regaining its national sovereignty after the end of the war, establishing a political system that gives Muslims a greater voice in the political process.
Many critics, however, charge that the new arrangements institutionalized sectarian divisions in the government. However, since the civil war the 2006-Israel-Lebanon conflict has largely "rolled back the clock" on Lebanese infrastructure and recreated similar problems created by the civil war.
Above are some of information about the Lebanese war that I can give to all of u. But, i admit here that I am a person who is lack of knowledge about outside countries bcoz if read newspaper, I just read on what happen in Malaysia only. I don't know how to make me enjoy reading about other countries news! I keep on trying!
No wonder why I never ask anything or never give any opinions to the presenters.ahaks~
